A plan without action is a dream.
My friends would tell you that I’m a planner and great at logistics. Sticking true to form, I started planning for this journey about 18 months ago. I started to get my finances in order. I will start this adventure as a single income family. I wanted to make sure that I’d be able to give my child as many experiences as dual income households. Thank goodness that my sister was taking financial classes and shared the wisdom with me. This is a life lesson that will always be with me.
Since the finances were on a good path, next is the science. I had no clue what options I’d be able to choose from. In August 2018, I started to explore and finally met with a highly recommended doctor. With no blood tests and my age, my doctor estimated my odds at 6% with Intrauterine Inception (IUI) (aka turkey baster) with a cost of about $1,500. Odds for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) are about 30% with a cost of about $12,000. My other sister found a procedure called Effortless IVF. Odds are about the same as the typical IVF with about the cost of $8,000. The cost savings comes from using the human as the incubator rather than a lab. When I met with this doctor, I had the first blood test back. He mentioned that with my numbers and age, my IUI odds should be around 15-20%. With all of this information, I decided to do a combination if IUI and the Effortless IVF if needed. My second blood test came back with flying colors.
I’ll never forget the Friday when a couple of us from the family got together ate pizza, drank wine, and went online shopping (aka buying the goods). I have to say, online shopping was way better than online dating! March 14, 2019 (aka Pi Day) was when I had my first round of IUI. Right now, I’m in the two week waiting period to see if I am pregnant. I’m cautiously optimistic. When I was reading up on some early signs of pregnancy, I saw that peeing a lot, feeling bloated, and being constipated could all be signs. As I was reading these signs, I thought…how is this different than a Tuesday. Ha! Yes, I know there are other signs. These were the funny ones that stuck out.
I’m excited and terrified to be so vulnerable about this journey. Thank you for going on this adventure with me!
Hugs, C
P.S. Talk to you tomorrow when I find out if it worked…
